To many of us, collage is a medium where any juxtaposition is allowed. For Nazim Hikmat, it appears, it is more about creation of a deeper world out of restructuring bits of the actual. When I look at his works I think of their ‘surplus value’, of how his mind rescues the images and texts lying in the gutter. When he returns them to you, you feel sorry for other text and images still moving about in the same nonsensical world! The way he frames them, the way he represents them is so sincere that you can them whisper, ‘Look here! Had you ever looked at it this way?’ d
