Even from his name you can tell that he is good with letters: Nazım Hikmet Richard Dikbaş. These constitute the name of a single individual; like his name, his works are the intersection of what you expect from Turkish culture and from the close connection of Contemporary Art with the outside world beyond its national borders. Nazim Hikmat takes text out of its ordinary context handling, in a very delicate manner, the relation between text and text or text and image. With cheap and available material, with bits of yellow magazines, he creates stunning moments that can be only realized by a sensible visual artist. As you walk within the duo carefully-curated exhibition, you feel you are walking in a book and you are protected from ignorance. This knowledge of text, on the side of the artist and his audience from whom such familiarity is expected, is not surprising with a nation that has a history of living with literature.
