There are numerous artists in the world who have used silk screen printing in their artworks and credit is generally given to Andy Warhol for popularizing silk screens. The idea of presenting wedding invitation cards using silk screen printing for a group show is fine, especially when the approach of the show is to eliminate the limitations of print in contemporary art. In the meantime, this work is in line with artist’s previous artworks: the invitation suits Tarlan Rafiee’s brides and shows artist’s attitude and mentality. Repetition of one letter from Persian alphabet (meaning ‘and’) all over the work gives this invitation card a dynamic yet sarcastic touch. We cannot deny that wedding from any viewpoint is an attractive issue in Iranian society and has its own popular audience even if people like me are not content with it. You can see another work by this artist here.
