This is undoubtedly Shadi Ghadirian’s worst artwork up to current date. For many reasons: first of all, the delicate boundaries of irony are ignored and the work has reached the realm of a crude mockery verging on hatred; then the ‘conceptual’ aspect of the work is treated carelessly: the work has jumped from concept to execution without maturity; and at last the medium of photography has been voided of content. There is nothing left of photography: Shadi Ghadirian has distanced herself gradually from photography adding to the conceptual aspects of her works; yet, conceptualism is not synonymous with ‘depth’.
