The photo collage which is inspired by the artist’s own family photos, tries to engage you with the notion of identity. By putting together tiny and somehow symbolic pieces to finally compose his work as the three-coloured flag of Iran, he also intends to raise the issue of national identity. It seems that through such composition, he is telling us the ‘family’ has been a unit for the continuity of life and is a place where he has experienced life, hope, love, power, duty and finally even death. I guess he is putting his very personal life in front of our eyes to tell us, beside all our personal experiences, we all belong to a bigger family and common identity. How successful he has been is for you to decide. Putting the photo collage in a light box imbues the piece with an even more public quality which I like. I wish he had done the same to the rest of the artworks!
