This drawing reminds me of Shadi Ghadirian’s magnificent photographs ‘like everyday’. Perhaps they are very much different in concept. The medium is different too.

Shadi Ghadirian’s women are hidden under their veils, whether they like it or not. Their identities are stolen and replaced by cups, sweeps and kitchen baskets. You feel pity for them.  But the girl here is not fitting into her veil. She is the modern day girl not allowing her veil to turn into a prison for her. The Adidas lacy top she is wearing under the veil has a lot to say and the tea she is offering is a good start for a conversation. You feel relieved by seeing this girl since she knows how to demand her own rights and the days are not supposed to be like every day for her!
