Mojtaba Tajik’s paintings can be considered pop from a certain point of view and cannot, from another. A small piece of the ‘familiar’ poster of ‘About Elly’ movie is not a reference to the importance of the film or even the content and cinematic qualities of this ‘work’. The tears, yellow dried glue and rusted metal are ‘exact’ renderings of the a commodified quality of an artwork that becomes popular for a time and is soon forgotten. The viewer either stares in astonishment at the technical mastery or shrugs saying, ‘So what?’. So, I like this painting for the unusual position it takes against commodity.
